Construction has started

Our neighbours and ourselves have now received a couple of informative emails from both Broadlands and Hydroplan telling us that work on the access road is definitely starting this week. We’ve been told that as residents, the road will not be closed to us, although it will be to members of the public (who frankly […]

And now it is about to start

Our neighbours at Inveronich were informed today by Hydroplan that work is about to start shortly on a) the access road b) tree felling around the powerhouse area and pipeline route c) surveying work for power cables. I’m a bit surprised that after a year’s delay this is happening so quickly. We had been informed […]

Putting this one to rest

We were finally informed that the Trust have written to the developer with our questions about the finance. We also received an apology that our questions had not been answered earlier. I don’t see much point in pursuing this issue further as I don’t think we are going to get satisfactory answers and it is […]

Response received from Loch Goil Trust

We received a written (snail mail) response to our written letter to the Trust. This is obviously the mistake I made in the past in presuming that in 2015 we would be ok with email. Anyway, now the 1800s have called and got their technology back the response was that the questions we asked would […]

Markers seen on Donich Circular

Looks as though there may be some action happening…. Marker posts have been seen on the Donich circular walk. This could be part of the work which we were told would be occurring later this year towards the top of the Hydro (not affecting Inveronich).

Finance Enquiry sent to Loch Goil Trust

This is the text of an open letter we wrote to the Trust on 9th June. FAO Lochgoilhead Community Trust: RE: Donich Hydro Scheme Just to follow on from the questions I had during the recent Community Council AGM. There were a number of points outstanding, and it seemed perhaps best to put these in […]

Some Updates

This is some further information I have managed to glean from various sources. The Cormonachan scheme which was the sister scheme to the Donich (over at the other side of the loch) has been cancelled (or at least postponed indefinitely) – apparently because it was not possible to connect it to the grid. It is […]

Donich very low

It hasn’t substantially rained here in the last week and the Donich is running very low (so low that my cats can cross to the other side by jumping from stone to stone!). It is hard to imagine that any hydro scheme could be running with this level of water in the river. From what […]

No news is?

I’d like to say ‘Good News’ – but I simply don’t know as I am finding it impossible to get any further information from anyone on what is going on and when the proposed start date actually is (assuming, perhaps wrongly, that a decision has been made on the matter). I am now going to […]

Video of the Waterfalls

I walked up round the Donich Circular this morning and took some video footage of the waterfalls for comparison with after the hydro has been constructed. The flow on the river was very low for Feb as it has been very dry recently, so the falls are not spectacular although they do look very pretty.
