Silt in the Donich

I’ve noticed since the construction started that there has been unusually high levels of silt in the Donich which is normally very clear. The other day I visually compared the water in the Allt Airigh na Creige (stream flowing off Cnoc Coinnich – I think the Gaelic means something like “Burn of the rock of the high pasture”) with the Donich, and whilst the former was perfectly clear, the latter was an ominous dark brown colour.

I have now learned that SEPA have attended the construction site a number of times and found the pipeline construction route silt containment measures deficient and have made several recommendations to improve the situation. As it was still looking bad yesterday, these measures have obviously not been entirely effective, and I hope this is not affecting the quality of the village’s water supply.
