Goodbye to all that…

With the Hydro in and running I won’t be updating this site on a regular basis any more unless there is a major development.  I plan to report from time to time on how the path is regenerating itself.  I’ll leave the site itself in place indefinitely as it should be a useful resource for […]

Post Holiday Update

No updates for a while as I have been away on holiday so a few things to report now. The hydro appears to be in full operation.  It regularly stops and starts running and this appears to be related to how much rain there has been and therefore how much water is in the river.  […]

Noise from Turbine

This is the noise the turbine makes at about 1m from the pump house (c. 65db).  It is still audible at about 30m away and certainly from Inveronich Cottage.  Click on the image for the video.

Hydro Commissioned

The Hydro had to be commissioned this week to get the advantageous FIT tariff rate. This appears to have occurred (although it would appear that in any case it only needs to have run for any time period however brief before the cut-off date to be eligible). We would presume, however that it is still […]

Some further developments

It is now one week before the due date for the Hydro to be completed.  We have been informed, however, that because the turbine is connected to the grid, and has actually been run (even though for a very short period of time) this constitutes “commissioned” and therefore the level of the fit tariff is […]

Two weeks to go

I heard that there has been confirmation from the Planning Authority that the developer will not be leaving the path in its current state and further restoration work is due to go ahead to restore the banks and vegetation.  The area around the Pump House has now been partially restored with chippings and looks a […]

Further updates on the Donich Circular Path

Concerns continue over the path up to the waterfall.  This is the response I received from the planning authority relating to the concerns I have been reporting around the restoration of the path. “The NP Access Officer (Guy Keating) has been in on-going discussion with the Project Manager regarding the restoration of the footpath and […]

Connected to the Grid

Our power was cut off for a few hours yesterday while the Hydro system was connected to the grid.  All seemed to go well and we were back online by 1pm.  I haven’t heard anything to indicate that everything didn’t go according to plan. I also heard that an informal noise test was carried out […]

Status with one month to go

I have now been informed that the path is in fact officially open, but is not in its final state as they are still expecting restoration work to take place on it.  I do hope this is the case because we have had torrential rain recently, and not only is the path a quagmire, but […]

Some pictures of the ‘Top End’

We had some pictures of the top end of the hydro sent in today – everything up there looks more or less finished. At times there also seems to be a little water running through the main pipe and coming out of the tailrace.  This was the situation this morning. But when I went to look tonight, […]
